Police in Hunt As Student Killed at His Home

POLICE have launched a murder investigation after an art student from Newcastle was murdered at his university home in Leeds. Joseph Cook, 20, from Fenham, was found dead at a shared house on Monday. Police believe he may have been killed during a bungled burglary. Officers were called to the house in Ebberston Terrace in the Hyde Park area of the city after reports of an alarm sounding on Monday afternoon. They found Joseph's body in a first floor bedroom.

She pleaded guilty at Sunderland Magistrates" Court to one charge of benefit fraud.

A PAEDOPHILE pensioner has been banned from using the internet and computers after his third child pornography conviction. Brian Barry, from Edgmond Court, Sunderland pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children.

TV chef Rosemary Shrager is urging people to show their support for a County Durham hospice by donating to the charity on a regular basis. She became aware of St Cuthbert's Hospice when she was filming Ladette to Lady in Eggleston Hall, County Durham, and decided to lend her support to the charity as it celebrates its 21st birthday this month.

A POLICE dog found dead at his handler's home is believed to have died of natural causes. An investigation was launched after Buzz, a German shepherd, died at the property in Amble on Sunday night.

Aircraft Component Factory Axes More Jobs

A FURTHER 58 jobs are being axed at a Durham aircraft component company. It follows earlier cuts of 100 jobs at Consett-based CAV Aerospace as a result of falling global demand for new planes. The company says its is facing "significantly reduced volumes as well as pressure to further reduce prices in a highly competitive market".

TWO soldiers killed while in Afghanistan were named yesterday. Sergeant Stuart Millar, 40, from Inverness and Private Kevin Elliott, 24, from Dundee, died in a blast in Lashkar Gah District, southern Helmand on Monday.

TV chef Clarissa Dickson-Wright and a leading race horse trainer yesterday pleaded guilty to hunting offences. Dickson-Wright, from Midlothian, Scotland, and Sir Mark Prescott, of Newmarket, Suffolk, admitted attending two hare coursing events in north Yorkshire in March 2007.
