50,000 Say Goodbye to Sir Bobby ; Tears and Pride for Lady Elsie at St James's Park

MORE than 50,000 fans have visited St James's Park to say a final farewell to Sir Bobby Robson. Last night Sir Bobby's widow Lady Elsie, accompanied by two of her sons, Andrew and Paul, walked to the pitchside to see the flags, scarves, banners and flowers left there.

A MAN was airlifted to hospital yesterday after he was bitten three times by a snake on a British beach. The snake, believed to be an adder, attacked the 31-year-old while he was at Caswell Bay, Gower, Wales.

Abuser Jailed ; North Today: Crime

A PENSIONER was jailed after admitting sexually abusing a young girl more than a decade ago. Robert Miller, 66, of Hunter's Court, Gosforth, Newcastle, admitted four specimen counts of gross indecency.

Council Told to Improve

A COUNCIL has been told to improve its work on supporting vulnerable older people. The Care Quality Commission inspected South Tyneside Council's adult services in May.
